The Nelson Swag Leg Desk kicked off an era of success at Herman Miller. It also introduced an influential furniture construction technique to the design world: The desk's metal legs are tapered ("swagged") through high pressure technology.

In 1945, D.J. Depree hired George Nelson in hopes of ushering in a new age of adventurous design for the Herman Miller company. Nelson exceeded Depree's expectations both as a designer and as an executive, generating countless iconic designs and piloting the company into its golden years.
