Isamu Noguchi was a highly-regarded furniture designer, sculptor and stage designer. He designed furniture for Knoll Inc. and for the Herman Miller Furniture company. He also created sets for several Martha Graham productions.
Knoll Inc., founded by Hans Knoll and later headed by Florence Knoll, was an influential 20th century design firm that manufactured furniture by a long list of acclaimed designers. This list includes Florence Knoll, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, Frank Gehry, Charles Gwathmey, Maya Lin, and Eero Saarinen. Knoll Inc. continues to produce high quality furniture and textiles. The company’s most historically important work is housed at several museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
