Craig Ellwood was a highly regarded modernist architect and furniture designer. His design aesthetic fused Mies van der Rohe style formalism with California Modernism.

Though Ellwood was an unlicensed architect with no formal training, he gained widespread acclaim for his work and later became an in-demand lecturer and professor.
